"The Chief Minister and the Governor-General of Australia, who are both patrons of the convention, will jointly open the convention that aims to continue the good network and relationship between the two countries, particularly the state bf Sarawak," Button said, adding that the convention could contribute to the growth of trade between both countries, when discussions went beyond economic matters. John Button is a former Federal Minister for Industry, Technology and Commerce of Australia, one of the longest serving industry ministers in the world and a prominent senator in Australia. Meanwhile, Sarawak Australian Graduates Association (SAGA) and Sarawak Alumni of the University of Adelaide (SAUA) are arranging for a group of 50 delegates to participate in the AUIAC 2002. The group, which will be led by Taib, will visit Melbourne for the AUIAC2002 convention and then proceed to Adelaide for a Homecoming Alumni gathering hosted by the South Australia State Government and universities. SAGA president, Rodger Chan Sion Bob said Australian alumni in Sarawak could register with SAGA before July 30 as after that date, the fee would be slightly increased. Special group fares for the Melbourne convention are now available. The convention, held once every two
years, was last held in Kuching in 2000 and participated by 1,200 people
from as far as Africa. Taib was the patron and chairman of the last
convention. Australian alumni who want to join the Sarawak group can
