KUCHING - Chief

the inaugural president of the recently established Adelaide alumni
association called Sarawak Alumni of the University of Adelaide (SAUA). Agriculture and Food
Industries Minister, Dato Sri Haji Adenan Haji Satem, deputy president of
the association, is also a law graduate of the same university. He
graduated in 1969. SAUA was approved
recently as the fifth international chapter of the University of
Adelaide's Alumni Association. The other international chapters are in
London, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Among the activities
planned for SAUA members are the official launching of the association in
July, the Annual General Meeting cum gathering at Taib's residence in
August, Australian Universities International Alumni Convention in
Melbourne in September, Homecoming in Adelaide in September, an Australian
School Concert Dinner in December and an Australian Host Family programme
in December. Other prominent alumni
serving in the executive committee are: Jacob Dungun Sagan (Member of
Parliament for Baram), Dato Sri Joseph Kong Ted Chong (Deputy Chairman,
Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam), Datuk James Ting Sing How (former general
manager of Shell Sarawak) and Mr Henry Lau. Mr
Rodger Chan, an architecture graduate who also studied Information
Technology at the university, is SAUA's honorary secretary. Chan is also
the president of the Sarawak Australian Graduates Association (SAGA). The
fact that the Chief Minister is the inaugural president of SAUA further
demonstrates his commitments to the university and its alumni. This was
reported in the recent issue of the university's official newspaper - the Adelaidean. Chan,
honorary secretary of the association, meanwhile, has encouraged more
graduates of the University of Adelaide to join the association. For more
